In times gone by Volvo’s have had a lot of stick for resembling small tanks, some may argue they still do, their safety features are still second to none. That said the S80 is an exceptional looking saloon, it’s basically the 3 generation V70. What I like about the S80 is the drive sensation, over the years Volvo have worked hard to upgrade their suspension giving their cars a firmer less bouncy ride. This was no easy task due to the weight of their vehicles.
On the downside the interior of the S80 is a little bland and the engine a little noisy, (especially with the diesel models) and there is not that much room in the back.
Positives, any company that can produce cars that have the best crash test ratings year in year out should be commended, the seats are comfortable, the extras if you can afford them are excellent, I would strongly recommend the automatic with geartronic.
All in all the S80 is an excellent choice if affordable, insurance is not too steep and for a large saloon it has a good fuel economy ratio
