It was fun watching War 2 in the theatre. I have been waiting for its release for a long time. Directed by Ayan Mukerji and produced by Aditya Chopra under Yash Raj Films, War 2 is an action sequel to the 2019 movie War. The movie truly features a global cat-and-mouse chase with high-octane action sequences, which I loved. I have always been a huge fan of Hritik Roshan, and this was also the reason behind watching this movie. His acting and Vikram Chalapathi(junior NTR)s 8-pack abs have brought life to the movie.
The movie revolves around Kabir(Hritik Roshan), a highly skilled RAW agent, turned into a contract killer targeting high-profile individuals. Meanwhile, some powerful forces join nations and form a cartel named Kali for Indias downfall. And thought Kabir would be the perfect man for this job. But Vikram Chalapathi(junior NTR) tries his level best to stop him. They both have done a phenomenal job in the movie to make it one of the most entertaining movies in Bollywood.
YRF has brought the two powerhouse casts, Hritik Roshan and NTR, together in one frame, which is no less than a feast to watch them together sharing the screen. Apart from the acting of these two legendary actors, the acting of Kiara Advani(Kavya Luthara) and Ashutosh Rana(Colonel Sunil Luthara) is also remarkable. The first half of the movie has good action sequences to keep you hooked, especially the intro sequence of the stars, which is neatly designed as a captivating chase sequence. Apart from some shoddy VFX shots, the action in the movie is enjoyable. Hritiks unlimited swag and screen presence, and NTRs best performance are truly appreciable in the second half.
Although the movie is great, there are a few areas that could have been better. The lead actors, Hritik and NTR, have done a great job, but the idea of watching them both playing the grey-shaded role may seem exciting, but it hasnt been effectively translated onto the screen. Also, I felt there was immense room for emotion and drama to make the movie even better. Even in the second half, I couldnt see any high or enjoyable scenes, which was also quite disappointing. No doubt the stars have done their best in the movie, but they deserve a better presentation. The cat-and-mouse game featuring the lead actor is ok, but not impressive enough to leave a lasting impression on my mind.
Now, if I talk about the technicality of the movie, the background music and visuals, especially during the action sequence, are commendable. The choreography and the music were majestic, especially Janab-e Aali. The VFX work in the movie is quite different and better than Pathaan and Tiger 3, but not award-winning, considering the high budget that went into making the movie. The editing could have been better, as it seems flat to me.
Overall, War 2 is nice, but Ayan Mukerjis narration is a mixed bag. Hritik Roshan and NTRs acting has uplifted the movie and made it entertaining. Since its an action movie, the action sequences in the first half were engaging, but the second half felt flat to me. The filmmakers could have handled it better. In short, the movie is worth watching, but it has some ups and downs-especially in the second half-with issues in editing and action sequences, which, if done better, could have brought more life to the film.
