Ok at the outset, let me declare that I do not believe in wasteful loss of life. I have lost friends fighting for my country in the Indian Army in Kashmir. But I believe that the war against terror is one that needs to be won so that it depletes the strength of terrorists’ world wide and helps bring peace to the world. Ok the last part is a stretch.
Thou shall reap what ...
Heres the ironic part. Last month the former President Reagan died. All the networks were praising him from heaven to earth about how diplomatic he was, how he ended the Cold War...blah blah blah... People have a very short memory span. Reagan is one of the root causes of why the world is racked with terrorism.
Let me detail why:
1. In the early 1980s Afghanistan was a Soviet puppet ruled by President Najibullah. In a calculated move to deplete the Soviet Army, the Reagan Regime, specifically the CIA created a rebel army, which later became the Taliban to fight against the Soviets. You might all remember the Rambo 3 movie. And they sent one foreigner to lead all the operations...guess who? Yup its Mr.Osama Bin Laden (come on! Rambo is a fictional character ). Please do read this story for more details https://slate.msn.com/id/2102243
2. Around the same time, Iran was becoming an increasing threat as it was ruled by Shia fundamentalists. To thwart Iran, the Reagan Govt. decided to use the old British policy of Divide and Conquer. So they funded and armed its neighbor, Iraq. But of course Iraq was lead by Saddam Hussein, currently vilified as a dictator. But then it was a vital ally. A gentleman by the name of Donald Rumsfeld was the chief envoy to Iraq a glorified post for an arms Dealer who helped arm Iraq with the technologies of Weapons of Mass Destruction. The Reagan govt. funded billions of dollars into the Iraq’s defence system. Please refer, https://counterpunch.org/dawoody06082004.html
3. Last by not least the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, a nation amongst the most arrogant of dictatorships. A nation which does not have any religious tolerance, respect for women and minorities and civil liberties. But Saudi Arabia was shown favoritism by Reagan and Bush because of oil money. Michael Moore might have overstated his point in Fahrenheit 9/11 but he was’nt so far off the truth. Please refer https://houseofbush.com/
Ok my point is this, the present day American Government has to pay for what the past has done. The monsters created in the past have come back to bite them. Now if they do a half baked job of stopping in Iraq it will lead to huge problems world wide. The jihadis in Kashmir and Afghanistan will ratchet up their usual problems. The fundamentalists in South East Asia will cause havoc in that region. Every one knows how stable the Bosnia region and Chechnya are. But Iraq is the starting point. Bush may have been wrong in all his reasons for coming to war, but his misguided actions can lead to a better future for people not only in the Middle East but around the world. The question is, are the people and leaders of all the democratic nations in Asia and Europe ready to take the challenge posed by terrorism and act on it now? Will India abandon its ridiculous principle of supporting Palestine and friendship towards the Middle East and join the war on terror? This is a war which cannot be fought and won by one country. The clock is ticking…..
