Declaration Woes

Certainly this must have been too painful for batting maestro Sachin. I don’t know how he is coping with the betrayal he has got from his team management( I will not say it is Rahul Dravid who did it as declaration is decided by team management not the captain alone). It is great humility on part of Sachin that he respects team management’s decision to declare the innings. I am just not able to think what players like Yuvraj, Sehwag or Ganguly or Dravid would have done if they had faced similar situation. But I am sure they would have reacted more vociferously.

This incident shows misunderstanding among team members. The whole act of getting together on the field when a wicket is down now seems to me as marketing gimmick by companies who are promoting Team India.

I personally feel what Rahul has done may be in the interest of game but it is certainly demoralising for the team members. It is true for both cricket team or any organization. The leader should not only work for best interest of organization but he also has to take care of Individual team member growth.

This incident will bring down team member’s confidence in the Captain. As the news of Saurav coming back to India has come, it will certainly be tough time for Rahul Dravid. This issue will bring clear divide in the team with some of them supporting Sachin and some of them supporting Rahul. This will not be in the best interests of Team India.

For Sachin, on a professional level, this should not matter much as he is capable of many more double centuries or even triple centuries. Personally he may feel cheated but he will soon forget the whole affair. On a lighter note , he is known to have grudges against bowlers only :) . It is in the best interests of cricket and team india that Sachin forgets this issue as fast as he can and he goes on achieving another milestone in the next inning.
