Deepa Mehta has made this movie after a lot of controversies, Trials & Tribulations.
The movie is a story of the life and times of widows living in a widow home in the the India of 1930s.
Lisa Ray is a widow from Childhood who has been pushed into prostitution to support the widow home.
She falls in love with a Gandian (John Abraham).
The story is picturised beautifully capturing the colours of a very colourful India (though shot in Sri Lanka) to the sadness on the face of an aging widow (Seema Biswas).
Please see the movie at least once for the very colourful dialogue.
Although the movie is in Hindi it will help renting a DVD and keeping the subtitiles on to give a better reference to context.
Although my parents are not avid movie audience they were glued to the movie from start to finish
