No more fat

Different people have different definitions of’fat’; the definition  of what is acceptable changes from country to country(just compare Preity Zinta and Rani Mukherjee to Calista Flockhart and Jennifer Aniston). However regardless of which country it is, in general movie stars are now expected to be thinner than than they were back in the 1950’s(Marilyn Monroe was a size 14; judging from their movies, Meena Kumari and Madhubala were probably just as large if not larger). Gaining weight is a minor annoyance to most of us; for actors it can wreck their careers. After playing Amitabh Bacchan’s heroine in one movie, Rakhee was forced to play his mother in the next one because she had put on an enormous amount of weight.  This was fatal to her image and she has been stuck doing’mother’ roles ever since.  You might be wondering why I keep talking about actors. Well that’s because I’m going to talk about The Hollywoood Diet.

The Hollywood Diet is a bottle of liquid-you can get it for$10 at Walgreen’s.  For two days this is the only thing that is supposed to go through your mouth.  On Day 3 it’s over. That’s it. It’s so simple it’s scary.  Does it actually work? Well in my experience I ended up losing five pounds.  This moti-vated(pun intended) me to lose some more the regular way, without the hollywood diet.   Before the Hollywood diet I was.well, let’s just say I was only a few sizes smaller than Marilyn Monroe.  Now I’m still not as skinny as I would like-something tells me I’ll never be as skinny as I want to be-but it is still an improvement. From my experience here’s what I’ve figured out:

1) Exercise is fun but it does NOT work.   You should exercise in order to develop muscles and produce more coronary vessels. You should exercise so that you produce more endorphins and get a natural high.  But you should not exercise just because you want to lose weight. This doesn’t work.  If you run-without slowing down-a quarter of an hour you’re still only going to burn 200 calories.  That’s nothing.  One cup of yogurt is 200 calories. And there’s only so long you can run.   A pound, by the way, is 3500 calories.

2) Any weight you lose will primarily be because of what you eat. So maybe pizza or puris are not such a good idea.  If you have a hard time with this, try writing down everything you eat every day. You’ll find that you ate a lot more than you always thought you did.

3) When motivation runs low, go dig those clothes  out of the closet. You know, the ones that are really pretty but you never wore them because you thought they were too small. hang them somewhere so you can see them every day.

4) Fad diets like the Hollywood Diet are not necessarily good for you but they can help in starting you off by giving you instant results.

5)Most people say to get rid of meat, but it helps if you  eat  fat-free lunch meat(like smoked chicken slices). Usually the calorie count for this is very low.

Well that’s all I can think of that isn’t common knowledge already. Comments are welcome.
