Dusk closing in on WI cricket

Ever since the 1996 worldcup semi final debacle Which led to the retirement of Richie richardson WI has struggled. The bowling seriously needs major revamping. the picture isnt too rosy either. Fidel edwards, pedro collins, johnson can never be compared to the golden greates of WI bowling attack.

The gazelle of bowling Holding or the Maverick Marshall can and will never be replaced. even the so called batsmen play only for records, the fact evident from Brian Laras recent 400* against England. Chris Gayle plays as if there is no tommorrow, Sarwan and chanderpaul needs to be more consistent. Dwane smith can be termed as a one test wonder. To lose to a team like Ireland after scoring 290+ and then losing speaks volumes of the indiscipline among the players.

Lara needs to step down and hand over the reign to some one like Sarwan so that sarwan takes up more responsibility while batting or bowling. Lara should be allowed to play his natural game without any inhibitions. The Lloyds & the Richards had tremendous contro over their team and demanded performance from the players.

The reason why they hardly lost any match during their haydays was because the players played for prideand not for self glory. what WI currently lcks is inspirational leadership and a player like Larry Golmes who held up one end so that the stroke makers could play their natural game.

Step down Lara for your own good and for the future of WI cricket, for I still consider cricket as a game played by the erstwhile WI teams and no one else; such was the joy of watching those players , todays players are poor cousins in comparison to the former players. may Lord & Lara save WI team
