What’s your Rashee ? - Astrological Blunder

What’s your Rashee ? - Astrological Blunder.

This year we are celebrating the International year of Astronomy. To a large extent astronomy has changed our perceptions.

But in today’s lifestyle and the limitless freedom the pre-nuptial check list has got longer like the movie what’s your Rashee. Just horoscopes are not enough, In addition to family background, education & other details, people are demanding blood reports & other health & fitness results before giving their consent.

Before writing this review I was thinking, What made me to watch What’s your Rashee ? It is neither Priyanka’s twelve different roles nor the thirteen songs nor Harman Baweja, The only reason is Ashutosh Gowariker. Yes the man who made phenomenal movies like Lagaan, Swades & Jodha Akbar.

After watching this movie on first day first show these were the lines I was remembering,

Yaad e Maazi Azaab Hai Ya Rab , Cheen Ley Mujh Se Hafiza Mera.

(I was remembering Lagaan & swades)

Ashtosh Gowarikar a genius gifted filmmaker who believes in creativity & consistently given some of the best movies in recent time, disappoints with what’s your Rashee. This is an average film. However, anyone expecting Lagaan or Swades will be highly disappointed,

It was the weak script and its poor execution that took away the movie. But I still hope & trust Ashutosh , He will come out soon with something different and something great.

This movie is Based on a “Kimball Ravenswood” written by US based Gujarati writer Madhu Rye, “What’s Your Rashee” is the story of Yogesh Patel (Harman Baweja) An NRI, a romantic eligible bachelor who have to save his family from financial calamity, must find a bride in ten days and so decides to meet one girl from each horoscope.

His marriage date is fixed, all the preparations are done and invitation cards are distributed and the only thing he has to do is select a suitable girl. He plans to meet twelve girls of each Rashi (Zodiac sign), two every day, that’s six days. Then he’ll give himself three days to think it over, and the tenth day will be D-day.

You can watch this romantic, comedy movie with the strong essence of astrology without any high expectations and you will be taken by surprise.

The twelve different characters of Priyanka Chopra, comedy in bits and interactions carry the lengthy movie. Further the pace of the movie is burdened with too many songs. I lost counting. Thirteen I believe. While adapting the extremes of all the twelve character of Priyanka the story loses its plot.

Performances .

Harry Baweja has undoubtedly put in a lot of effort and hard work, but I genuinely feel sorry for him. He is completely overshadowed by Priyanka.

Undoubtedly Priyanka steals the show. Priyanka has done justice to each of the twelve characters she portrays (There’s Anjali , Vishakha , Kajal , Hansa , Mallika , Pooja , Rajni , Nandini , Bhavna , Jhankhana , Sanjna , & Chandrika, ) And ensures almost each of them feel distinctly different. The producer of the film, Sunita Gowariker & Screwalla , has sent Priyanka Chopra’s name to officials of Guinness Book of world records. It seems she is honoured to be a part of the record-breaking film.

The remaining cast has bit roles with nothing to do.

Direction.

What made Ashotush to direct this terribly long movie on Sun Signs? This is Ashotush’s worst work in a long time. A movie that not just falls way below expectations.

Though the genius director has successfully managed to blend comedy and drama pretty well. The movie fails to recreate the magic of lagaan, Swades & Jodha Akbar. The script is poor & the climax is pretty weak.

Music.

A R Rahman’s tunes were the strong point of Gowariker’s earlier films, but here the music by budding composers Sohail Sen is just above average. There are some fast numbers, romantic songs with Arabic and folk tunes. Specially I enjoyed Jao Na, Koi Jaane Na, Sau Janam, Title Song, Bikhri Bikhri. Lyrics by Javeed Akthar is outstanding.

Final Verdict.

What’s Your Rashee? is a very innovative attempt considering the never seen before portrayal of twelve characters by a single actress Priyanka Chopra. The fault lies mainly with the script & screenplay. The first half is somewhat interesting, but the second half is never ending.Whole Movie was nothing more then meeting girls of each Rashee and watching song dedicated to each of the twelve different characters.

The film would have been a little more tolerable lf had it been under three hours but a running time of three hours and thirty minutes appears far too much.

See it if you must. But watch it without any high expectations
