Oh My, Oh, My, Oh My.
After waiting with bated breath for AGs next offering post his massive three hits, this one brought me crashing to mother earth. After 3 and a half good afternoon nap hours, one was left asking.why, why, why.what, what, what?
What made AG self destruct this time? or was he following his equally illustrious associate Rakesh Mehras similar destiny trail as was evident with the catastrophic Dilli 6?
Whats your Rashee is not all that bad a film. It does have it good moments and yes, entwined in the story lines of the 12 candidates, there are some very pertinent and useful social issues like child marriage, social repression, compromise, male chauvinism, blind belief in astrology etc. etc. All very valid in times such as ours.
The story too is not all that bad, in fact AG has quite an interesting story for this film but the execution is where he has made a holy(or maybe wholy) mess of things. I mean - 12 songs.why? The plot of an NRI boy coming to India(on account of his parents misrepresented situation) and being compelled into a hurried marriage is believable and all is fine until he begins to meet up with his 12 prospective brides from 12 different star signs(rashees) to make it a complete audition before final selection. Most of these are believable personalities excepting for the boss lady, the past life regressive and the astrology toting sadhvee
In what could have turned into really comic and enjoyable situations, the Director has resorted to songs instead of script to carry forth these individual interludes. At the end of the film one really feels that this could easily have made watchable viewing if the songs were reduced to a single verse or removed altogether as there was really no need in the case of most of the 12 episodes. We then would have had a 2 and a half eminently watchable film but I guess AG was drawing his inspiration from alien avenues this time around.
Coming to the performances - a standout performance by Priyanka Chopra again(two performance rating stars to her alone for this one). Harman.well.er.hmmm.tried too hard once again.something in the facial expressions seems amiss and hed better do something about that right away or his careers a write off as of now(few have recovered from 3 consecutive opening flops unless their dads keep bank rolling them). One cant rely on dance alone to convey talent, if there is some around. Others performed adequately especially Darshan Jariwala and Dilip Joshi but the real star and probably the one who upholds the movie all through is Priyanka.
Music too is bad excepting for the average title song(hummable to a point). Nothing much to add or comment with regard to other areas of the film which are all average.
The main problem of the film is its direction and AG should use this as a good experience of what not to do for his future endeavors or else itll be Oh My God, OMG, OMG.
