When I bought my new Computer it came with the Windows XP System. I had no choice and was unhappy because I loved my Windows 98+. I had and have a DSL Chip in both Computers.
THEY CLAIM:
It is suppose to be faster at ’booting’’ than my old Window 98+.I found it was the same.
The said that the file and folder Management System would be better. I found it was the same.
They said that the Driver would run better. It doesn’t.
They said that any Soft or Hardware or Software , (that is compatible with Microsoft XP), would run better. It doesn’t it runs the same.
They said that the Pictures and the Sound would be better. I find it’s the same.
The Start-up Menu and the Control Panel were suppose to be better but I don’t think it is.
They said I would have less Computer ’’crashes’’ and that’s been true so far.
They said if I didn’t like the XP I could to back to the “ Classic Look”. I’ve looked in the display settings and clicked on the Control Panel and couldn’t find a place to do that.
The IE6 is suppose to be the fastest browser but it isn’t faster than the one I had on the 98+
The Outlook Express6 has no ’’Spell Check’’ and I find that annoying.
WHAT I LIKE:
The first thing it said when I set up my Computer was to use a ’’restore disc’’. I did that and although I haven’t had to use it I know that it is there.
Microsoft upgrades the features once a week, (they did with the 98+ as well).
It comes with Nortons Anti-virus System and I like that better than the McAfree System on my old Computer. Nortons upgrades their System every week. That makes me feel safe.
There is a Firewall and that gives me some extra protection.
I rarely use the Media8 player, (Windows 98+ had it as well).
IT ALSO COMES WITH:
It also comes with Word Perfect Office 2000, a Note Pad, Address Book, an Adobe Reader, a Real Music Player, a Thesaurus, you can change your language settlings, a Dictionary, some PC Games and a Britannia 2000.
I HAVEN’T USED:
The CD Burner.
WHAT I DON’T LIKE:
- When I am on the Web 20 pages of Microsoft come up in a flash. Every day there is at least one problem report sent to their Help Desk.
Every day a new Person on the Help Desk contacts me to ask me the same questions I answered the day before and the day before that...etc.
Did they help me fix it? No! I had to remove my ’’Pop up Stopper’’ to stop the pages from coming up.
- I find that it is harder to use my MSN Messanger. I never had a problem before but now if there is a storm I can only type but not talk or see the Person I am trying to talk to.
MY THOUGHTS:
I would love to have the Spell Check back on my Outlook Express. I feel that Windows XP just a bit better that the Windows98 System.
I cant decide to recommend it or not so Ill leave it up to you.
