The Outlandish Binge

It was a dark stormy night, never expected it would rain. Rama and I pulled over outside a building next to Kodava samaj, off millers road. We parked quickly and ran towards the stairs where there was shelter. While we were busy trying drain excess water from our clothes and cursing the rain god for his unsolicited offering, I noticed there was a well lit place which looked like a restaurant. After taking a closer peek, I said ’’Whoa, I see beer!’’. I look at my friend he looks at me ’’Are you thinkin’ what I’m thinkin’. Next moment we were inside, it suddenly felt warm, crisp and good. Could hear some crisp Jazz, probably miles davis (me no jazz). Is this a Pub, Bar or Restaurant I asked myself? They called it ’’Windsor Pub’’. Great! finally a new place to go. We decided to check-it-out.

The ambience was very different, It felt neither like a pub, bar or a restaurant or any combination (In bangalore we’ve got it all: Pubs/Bars/Restaurants/Pub & Restaurant/Bar & Restaurant and last but not the least ’’Pub, Bar & Restaurant’’. Hmmm.. some choice we have in this city. Screeeeeech!! Sorry, Back to Windsor. Music changes to ’’U2 -- Beautiful dayyyy’’. I suddenly feel better. ’’1 Pitcher, 1 Fries’’ was our usual boring order without even giving a second thought. Then we looked at the other tables, we saw things we’d never seen before. ’’Helo! one second’’ we stop the waiter, ’’we’ve changed our mind cancel the Fries, what else do you have?’’. Yes! they had things we’d never expect in a ’pub’ kind of place. ’’Madurai vada?????’’, Cocktail Bajji, and the list went on. For the Meat yuppies there is nothing less, ’’Madras fried Chicken’’ MFC huh? ’’Chicken Sausages’’ yo! whatz all this man? Ok. I am suddenly very very hungry. ’’1 cocktail bajji, one Chicken Sausage and one Pitcher’’ our brave new order. ’’Cheers!’’ five minutes our stuff arrives, looks really goood! Sausages was YUM! they were the size of bullets!small and packed a punch. cocktail bajji was something like our hommmade ’alu bonda’ with a special touch. they really went well with Kingfisher.

They had quite a wide range of exotic dishes to choose from, Kairali, Coorgi, Italian (yup!), Continental, Seafood (they’ve got Squids too!) etc., not bad at all. 10:30, last order! Now, I can’t stop trying those other funny things they have, ever heard of ’Cochin BAD Word Curry’, neither did I, I’ll take that! my friend takes fettucinni. O! the beerz over, need more, ’’waiter, more beer please’’. ’’Sir, you get a beer free with every meal’’. ’’What! you gotta be kidding’’. It was for real. The dinner was X-L-N-T, the BAD Word curry was dynamite (with appam), next time I’ll try their Steak Mexicanne. ’’Check.’’ It arrives. We pay, get out. Rain seems to have stopped. A nice Smoke, then off home. Good Vibrations. Burp! Kj P.S: ’pub-diner’ Yeah, that category seems ok!
