Winzip8.0 is the most powerful and probably the only utility to compress and ’’zip’’ several files into one single (.zip) file. It also does the reverse..i.e…decompresses and separates (extracts) all files, from a given (.zip) file.
The latest version 8.0 has extremely high compression capability. The percentage of compression depends on the type of files you want to ’’zip’’. I generally ’’zip’’ all my detabase (.dbf) files and backup. A folder containing about 100 (.dbf) files, occupying about 6 Mb space, gets compressed to just 550 kb, when I ’’zip’’ them, giving me more than 90% compression. The ’’My documents’’ folder containing, a total of about 3 Mb taken by all my (.doc) files get ’’zipped’’ to about 1Mb, giving about 70% compression.
This makes the job of backing-up your data very easy and convenient as, not only does it create just ONE file out of several, but also compresses them to a very small size. Because of it’s high-compressing capability, you can ’’zip’’ MANY, very large files into just ONE small file, and send, via e-mail, very quickly. Many softwares, that you may want to download, may come in (.zip) formats. This tool comes in very handy to ’’unzip’’ the file/s, and install the software. However, I haven’t tried, but I read, that if you want to ’’zip’’ several (.exe) files it gives only 25 to 30% compression.
I think it is now, a freeware, and can be downloaded from softseek.com or downloads.com or znet.com. The size of this file is small, hence it downloads very quickly. It’s a breeze to install it.
An excellent utility…a must for all.
