From track number one this album takes hold of you and holds you tightly. Combining hard rythm guitar, bass, and drum beats with some (almost NIN) techno with the powerful hardcore vocals and greatly in tune backing vocals, Static-X is tearing up the music scene.
I went to buy this album with reluctance. I only heard Push It on the radio and the rest was based on a friends opinion. So I got it. And I Dont regret it at all! I was missing out by hesitating!
The powerful tracks:
#1 Push It (2:35)- explosive way to start a CD. Powerful vocals and backing vocals. Heavy sound. Fast paced. I give it 5 stars.
#2 Im With Stupid (3:25)- Maybe better called Hes A Loser, this track should have been a deeper track. Lacks the take hold gripping sound as a few to come. The vocals are chant sounding and good luck trying to understand them without using the lyrics! I give it 3 stars.
#3 Bled For Days (3:46)- Incredible track. A slower heavy sounding rythm with changing paced vocals. Powerful mix of lead and backing vocals really brings this song out. This one gets 5 stars for sure!
#4 Love Dump (4:20)- A song relating to that someone in life who you just hate! Again the vocals and rythm is a great sound. Again a 5 star track.
#5 I Am (2:47)- The track lacks something. Church goers must love this song with the line Put a gun in my and threaten to shoot. This one gets 3 stars.
#6 Ostegolation (3:32)- Once again the use of harsh rythm guitar sounds. And this is a very lacking track. This one gets 2 stars.
#7 Stem (2:55)- A unique sound but lacking. Nothing much to say about this one. It gets 2 stars.
#8 Sweat of the Bud (3:30)- 5 repeated lines to this song. I dont get the meaning. And it lacks once again. It gets 2 stars.
#9 Fix (2:50)- To me another of the lacking songs that must be the album filler for lack of anything better to put on it. Critics will look at this a drug pushing song. Though I relate it to anything in life good and you want more. Heck- I need my Epinions! 2 stars.
#10 Wisconsin Death Trip (3:09)- Album Title Track- now we see the Static-X we came to love in the opening 5 tracks. Again the sound of pure hardcore at its best. A 4 star song.
#11 The Trance is the Motion (4:50)- Here is a real hint of the NIN influence maybe? Techno mixed with rythm guitar. A 3 star track.
#12 December (6:18)- A long trance intro to this song. Again relating it to NIN. I take a meaning of close the doors to the past and mistakes and regret and look forward to what you can come. A quiet slow paced song and beat mixed with whispered vocals. Great closing track. 5 stars!
Though this album can end up on the critics table for language and the supposed bad influences to todays kids (NOT!), it is a take hold sound that you will love. Hardcore lovers, this is a MUST have!
