MAHESH BHATT presents a story CLOSE to his HEART!

Woh Lamhe. This movie is special not only because it is inspired from Mahesh Bhatt-Parveen Babi love life but because it is handled in such a nice manner that it really touches you and makes you think about it even after you have came out of the theatre. The credit for this goes to the actors and the extremely talented director of this movie, Mohit Suri.

The story of the movie: Aditya Garewal (Shiney Ahuja) is a wannabe director who wants to make it big in Bollywood. He has a story ready for himself and he wanted to sign the famous model and actress, Sana Azim (Kangana Ranaut) for his film. Through his unique way, he makes Sana sign for the movie. The movie becomes a huge hit and Adtiya and Sana fall in love with each other. But Aditya doesn’t know one thing about Sana-she is suffering from Paranoid Schizophrenia. Slowly, this disease starts affecting everyone around her. So she is taken to a hospital. To cure her of this disease will take 12-16 weeks. But the directors who are working with Sana cant wait for so long. So the doctors suggest an alternate solution for Sana’s treatment-shock therapy. But Aditya rejects to this. But his rejection falls on deaf ears. So what will Aditya do now? Would he able to save Sana from the shock therapy? Would he able to cure Sana from her dreadful disease?

Woh Lamhe is successful in many ways. Firstly, Mohit Suri handles the movie excellently. If the story would have falled into wrong hands, the movie would have become a disaster. No other director, except Anurag Basu, would have handled the movie in the same way as Mohit Suri. Secondly, each actor tries his best and succeeds in giving a superb performance. Thridly, Pritam’s music helps in making this movie better.

The first half of the movie deals with the true face of the glamour world and how Sana, who was a big star, was like a mere puppet. The second half changes completely. It becomes light, soft and quite touching.

There are some ‘lamhe’ in the movie that is nicely executed and which will remain in your mind for a long time even after the movie is over.

The main reason for the success of the movie is Kangana Ranaut. It was because of her that one likes the movie. She gives an excellent performance and gets into the skin of the character. This was evident from the fact that she took a long vacation after filming to get off the burden of playing the character. Trade analyst Taran Adarsh, in his Woh Lamhe review said, “If you’ve ever interacted with Parveen Babi, even briefly, you’d see a replica of the glamorous star in Kangana”!! Truly speaking, she was born for this role!

Shiney Ahuja, too, maintains a strong position of himself throughout the movie. He gets better as the film progresses. He is really an actor to watch. Watch out for his performance when Shaad Randhawa asks him ‘Where is she” and he shouts, “I don’t know”

Newcomer Shaad Randhawa was slightly disappointing. He was overacting at times. But otherwise, he is fine and he may get a few good roles after this movie. Masumeh as Rani was terrific horrifying and acts as she was told. Purab Kohli was fantastic and gives a funny performance. Others do a nice job.

Pritam’s music is very soothing and nice. Songs, which really work, are ‘Kya Mujhe Pyaar Hai’, ‘Chal Chale’ and ‘Bin Tere Kya Jeena’.

Dialogues were original and nicely written. Some touching dialogues of the movie:

  1. “If there is no hope, we shall invent it.”

  2. “Hum jaise log to kisi tarah jee lenge, par ab tum kaise jiyoge?”

  3. “Woh Lamhe jo humne saath guzare hai zinda rahenge hamesha ke liye.”

Bobby Bedi’s cinematography was perfect for such a movie.

Mohit Suri’s direction is wonderful. His last 2 movies, Zeher and Kalyug, were also handled nicely by this director. I am waiting for his next movie man!

Some of the notable and touching ‘lamhe’ of this movie:

  1. The scene where Sana talks to Aditya on the last day of their shoot

  2. The scene where Adtiya meets Sana’s landlord

  3. The scene where Purab Kohli escapes from the police

  4. Sana’s birthday sequence

  5. The climax

  6. The last scene of the movie

  7. The scene where Sana hallucinates about Rani in the studio

  8. The scene where Sana says that there is no hope for her

On the whole, Woh Lamhe is a movie that is a must watch. It has strong story, superb direction, and splendid performances. It is quite touching. Really a must watch!
