Poor Babi

Poor Parveen Babi. She isnt around to defend herself or lend credence to the claims of her ex-lovers (Kabir Bedi and Mahesh Bhatt). Kabir, of course, does not claim much from Parveen, in her last rites he was present and helpful. So we assume he did care. Mahesh has made some movies based on Parveen and his own life. Arth, where smita patil played the paranoid mistress. Phir Teri Kahani Yaad Aayi where Pooja Bhatt depicted the downfall of a bright lovable girl due to her illness. PTKYA was a better film, more touching.

In Woh Lamhe Mahesh seems bent upon depicting Parveen as a two bit actress. Actually she was very well educated and came from a good background. She never had to ’struggle’ to be recognised. BR Ishara spotted her while she was still in college and gave her a role. She was too beautiful to be kept down and managed to rise to stardom.

She belonged to an intelligent bohemian set and spouted and read famous philosophers. In all evidence, Mahesh Bhatt dumped her or vice versa. So much for plot authenticity.

That apart, what brings the movie up is the excellent performances by Shiney and Kangana. Its a repeat after Gangster. Shiney needs to watch his expression sometimes. He is amazing, but can go over the top a bit. You wont have Sudhir Mishra controlling you all the time Shiney, watch your nose. Kangana needs to work on her voice. That apart she is excellent

One song is good, the rest of the movie is good enough. Like another very good reviewer just said, the dialouges get a bit tacky.

Now the real movie would be where Mahesh Bhatt drops the meglomania and makes something honest.. for once.
