Women Who Have Waved The Magic Wand Of Change

Hey all The Magazine gives a perspective on the changing face of Indian Women and so its nice way to look at that how the women are doing in all the aspects of life, I like the various sections in the magazine, welll this review is not much on the magazine but since I have been reading it. I have tried to bring out the women that have changed the world around them and have made an impact. So kindly read on.

Lata Mangeshkar ( playback singer )

India’s most recognisable voice is not as ethereal as it once was and there are few songs today which can move us to tears with their purity. She dosen’t sing as much now as she used to, of course, and she has opted out of the awards race....why does she need them now?Lata has stepped back, allowing the next generation of singers to make their mark. There have been a plenty of them, pretenders and claimants alike but nobody has replced the queen.

Shabana Azmi (Actress-Activist-Politician )

From one of the finest actress we have ever had to articulate spokeswoman for select causes to full-fledged activist to member of Parliament, it’s been something of a natural progression for Shabana Azmi. ’’I am an Indian first, then a woman, then a muslim’’ , she famously declared and all along has proceeded to practise what she preaches, whether it is taking out a demonstration or campaigning for women’s issues. And of course parallel cinema’s gift to the masses has clocked in 25 years on screen and still delievers break through performance every once in a while.

Shahnaz Husain ( Beautician )

Always, but always looks the part. The mother of all herbal cosmetics is a personality guaranteed to make the unsuspecting jaw drop with her dramatic, flowing robes, flamming mane and kohl outlined eyes set dramatically in a face that says it all for Shahnaz Herbal Cosmetics. But this self made woman who has worked very hard for her success. From the salons of Paris and London and to India of course , her creams and lotions have found their way all over the globe.and she has 650 salons in 104 countries to prove it.

P T Usha ( Athlete)

P T Usha is a woman of unstoppable determination her most swwet moment was at the ’ 84 Olympics in Los Angeles, when she came heart stoppingly near to winning India its first bronze medal in athletics. She also won many golds one year later at the Asian Athletic Track and field events in Jakarta. Her come back at the age of 34 was not a glorious one but Usha says, ’’ I’m not gonna quit’’.

Kalpana Chawla ( Astronaut )

Growing up in Karnal, Haryana, the young Kalpana Chawala knew she was going to do something with her life. She was a tomboy who chopped off her own hair and learnt karate. She loved the idea of flying, she dared to dream and then , she had to work very hard to make that dream a reality. She did that though qualifying over 2, 962 applicants to NASA, to earn herself a place in space shuttle Columbia for a 16 day out of the world experience. The NASA people use to call her a ’terrific astronaut’. HATS OFF 2 THIS LADY!!!!

Asha Bhosle (Playback singer )

All her life Asha Bhosle had to play a supporting role to her ’didi’.To forever in Lata Mangeshkar shadow is a burden that might have broken the spirit of a singer nothing does- especially when she sings and she has managed to overcome the Lata factor in her own way, singing in a own sesuous style that even Lata couldn’t match. Has there been a sexier voice?I must say a more versatile one...

Ritu Kumar ( Designer )

In the beginning there was a swatch of glorious fabric that was essentially Indian.Along with this fabric came the synonymous designer name Ritu kumar. Now after many a designer has emerged from the ranks, risen to glory and faded like a shooting star, there still remains Ritu Kumar. Her style never fades, step into any of her boutiques and pick any of her embroidered creations and you’ll see why this Indian fashion is worthy of her crown.

Kiran Bedi (Police Officer )

’It’s always possible’.That is what her book says and that pretty much sum-up award winner Kiran Bedi’s philosophy of life.Whether its becoming the country most controversial woman IPS officer, she has served India most best woman officer ever because she is also true to her name brings with her a ray of sunshine, light and hope.
