Since today marks my 1st Month Anniv at MS, let me comment about MS itself. Heres my first impression on ratings and the way they affect me. Being new to the game, words likeRevenge Rating used by pros are greek to me. Once I wisen up, Ill share jewels of wisdom on how to rate!
Just everyone is out to give HR unless revu is out-n-out cut paste or junk written to fill 100 words. Looks as if people are out to please everybody and giving anything less than HR is considered offensive.
I presume, to rate honestly, you have to have some interest in product being reviewed. That is why you are reading the review in first place. Some members seem to read and recommend every word ever written on MS tho they have no conceivable context or connection to the product being reviewed! e.g. person in US rating revu of some pub in zhumri-talaiyya. Of course, You are entitled to read the revu. But are you qualified to judge upon whats being said?
Agreed folks write exceptionally good stuff here. But again, by law of averages, every quality check has a normal distribution. Right? Does it not devalue a persons rating if s/he finds 95% of what s/he reads as interesting? Neither is it an encouragement for writer once s/he comes to know he can get way with HR for any crap he writes. It may encourage you a few times, but then you begin to doubt the system.
Even MS looks to be biased about this. Like if I have one HR and one NR, overall rating will show to be HR.
That is why I have come to notice most of the veterans sayingratings dont matter. I agree for now but sincerely hope this changes.
Ratings reviews is a good idea that has floundered in execution on MS. One way(and not the only one for sure) to look at it is to guide readers who want an authoritive statement on the product. What review rating should determine most is thecredibility of review. For me, any review which overshadows the product(by its style/humor etc) is certainly not recommended for genuine readers i.e. those reading it with apurpose in true sense of the word. That motive has been long lost. But, this argument wont apply toEntertainment category, as people ARE seeking to be entertained here:)
Because of overuse of HR, or by using HR for wrong reasons, whole review rating process has been rendered ineffective. Instead of helping a general reader choose what to read, it has become a circular praise mechanism for a select few.
All that you can trust is ur trust circle. Finally what matters is not your HR count but HR from people whos opinions count.
This looks to be a popular topic!
