This morning, I was thinking of a topic to write in mouthshut, and a friend invited me to his blog space. It struck me if writing on mouthshut is better than writing blogs.
How is it different anyways?
This has led me to choose this topic of comparing writing on mouthshut with blogging.
Openness and ‘forum like”
In my opinion, blogs are too secluded, too personal. There are two ways to look at it. One maintains a blog, because one wants to express him/her, and put it onto a medium where the topic is likely to be read. One wants to express and see if there are people agreeing or disagreeing. I don’t mean to say that, blog topics are always debatable. But, writing a blog, waiting for it to be read and then waiting for a comment, is generally the process.
Writing on Mouthshut is writing for an audience, with a definite purpose of offering advice, sharing personal experience, and just to let people know.
Visual appeal
Blogging offers the option of choosing a look for your space. Personalization is the advantage while “disconnect” from the audience is the disadvantage.
Mouthshut may not offer the liberty to choose look and feel, but keeps us connected under the bigger community of MSians, one feels part of a group. There is certainty of your write-ups elicit interest or disinterest. Personal blogs have no target audience. Each one, on his own.
Think of staying in an independent bungalow, vis-à-vis staying in a plush apartment in an up-market housing complex! Each one has its own set of advantages and disadvantages.
Ooops, ad-guys watch out for this space, you have an excellent audience here.
