X-Men Evolution was the first introduction to X-Men that I had, and I’m glad that I was lucky enough to see that before the series on Star World, otherwise I might never have bothered with it at all!! As it turned out to be, I was hooked onto the series, the characters, and the storylines.. whenever I missed an episode I’d log on and find the synopsis of that episode. Its that addictive.
The series deals with teenagers and their usual, messed up crazy lives that all of us are familiar with, but add to this the complication of being mutants, a new breed of super-humans who are emerging centuries before the rest of the world can catch up to them, this courtesy of the unidentified gene ‘X’.
The series follows through the turbulent lives of these teenagers as they discover and come to terms with their own uniqueness and learn to embrace it and enhance it under the guidance and watchful eyes of Professor Xavier as he trains them for the war that lies ahead, because these special children not only have to deal with the hatred and distrust from ‘normal’ humans, but also confront their own kind who believe in different ideologies. Their paths through life are traced and the importance of making one’s own choices is given importance, no matter what the consequences. It is interesting to note that while each character undergoes different transformations and problems, the inherent personality remains, like in any teen’s life. The emphasis on individuality goes to prove that in fulfilling the storyline’s demands the essence of the personalities need not be lost, we can see the confusion in the minds of these teens as they tackle their lives, be it about their powers, their crushes, their choices, their mood changes, their feeling, their insecurities etc.
In short this is an excellent series! Must watch!
