Initially I was confused on whether I should get Mi A1 or the Moto G5 S+ . But, luckily I choose Mi A1. It has been around 5 months after the purchase and I still consider it as a value for money.
The aesthetics of the phone clearly shows that its a copy of iphone. For me it doesnt matter. The build quality is excellent, smooth black matt finish etc are the key notable features of the phone. The phone is thin and the dual camera setup looks stunning.
Getting into the hardware part, it packs a snapdragon 625 2ghz octacore processor with 4 gb of ram and 64 gb of inbuilt storage. On top of it is the Android one OS. I believe it is a heavenly combination of hardware and software in a mid-range phone. The phone runs flawlessly and gives a one full day battery backup with moderate usage. The phone is getting security updates every month and also bug fixes. Currently it is running on Oreo and I wonder why even the Redmi Note 5 is running on Nougat. Thats the power of pure Android OS.
About the camera, the dual camera portrait is awesome. Better when compared to other phones in this budget range. The sound output is also nice with the dedicated amplifier unit inside.
The only issues I face are the few software bugs, low quality front camera and battery backup.
Still I consider this phone as a best in its range and can even compete with the newer phone currently released.
