Xiaomi launched this mobile recently in India at an aggressive pricing considering the specs it offers. So here is my opinion about this device.
Build & design: The phone is built out of metal and gives a premium feel to hold in the hand. It’s a bit huge device with it’s 5.5" screen, so for most single handed usage will be a pain. I’d say it’s competitor Le 1s has a better build quality than this one.
Display: The phone comes with a 5.5" 1080p IPS display whereas most of the Tier 1 brands are providing 720p display in this price range. The display has good viewing angles, contrast ratio, but the biggest issue I have with the display is that it’s not easily visible outdoors especially in direct sunlight, so for many people that can be a deal breaker if u mostly stay outdoors.
Battery life: The battery backup is excellent on this device. It can easily last for 1.5 days with moderate usage. I could easily get a Screen On Time of 6 hrs with typical days usage.
Performance: The phone is powered by Snapdragon 650 SoC. So overall performance is ok. But I do see some minor UI lag here and ther due to the top-heavy MiUI. Also in NOVA 3 the gameplay is definately playable but not that smooth as advertised.(thanks to that 1080p display)
Camera: Camera is a big sucker on this device. Many biased reviewers are praising the camera on this device but believe that is the place where Xiaomi phones lose. Moto G 3 has a much better camera both front and rear. With the front facing camera, even in outdoor lighting there are issues with exposure and white balance.
Speaker: Just acceptable.
Call Quality: Crystal clear
Updates: With the MIUI you will get minor bug fixes or improvements, but do not expect the device to get major Android updates.
The fingerprint scanner and IR Blaster work very well.
Conclusion: I’d say overall the device is average but the camera and the display in outdoors suck. Also I didn’t like the build that much. I could have call it a decent buy but after so many reviews in favour of this device and the hype and demand this phone is getting, your expectations get very high, and believe me you’ll be dissapointed.
