I will be very honest, I watched xXx: Return of Xander Cage, just to see Deepika Padukon. Up till then, I had never ever seen Deepika Padukonin and English movie, so I was very excited about it.
The film is the 3rd part of the xXx series. What made the film even more exciting was that it was being launched after12 years of the xXx movie release. So, for all fans, this was big news. The film is packed with loads of action, so if you are a big fan of action packed movies and a big fan of Vin Diesel, this movie could definitely be just what you seek.
The film was directed by D. J. Caruso and written by F. Scott Frazier. And of course, the star of the film was Vin Diesel. So, I really expected a lot from the film. As is the case with all Vin Diesel films, the movie was loaded with fights, stunts, shoot-outs and of course – there was a lot of noise – which is usual with almost every Vin Diesel film.
Some of the action sequences in the movie are pretty good, particularly the ones with Donnie Yen. Bit most of the other action sequences have loads of quick cuts in them, which is really depressing to see in a film of this caliber. There are also many sequences which have such bad cuts, it makes it hard to understand what is happening in the film.
But these were the things I expected with the xXx: Return of Xander Cage.
What was very bad was the storyline. It seemed to be put together in a big hurry. The storyline was very weak and did not have any real suspense or any magical moments in it. Just the same old endless running and chasing and shooting and fighting!
There is nothing new in the movie, just old wine in a new movie. Obviously this movie was made, running on the fame on popularity of its predecessor and the star value of Vin Diesel. Nothing new to be seen in the movie, just seems like a rehash – put together in a big hurry.
The film was really a bore. But what let me down the most, was the acting of Deepika Padukon. I had high expectations, but was let down by her acting. Basically the film just seems to be about Xander Cage and about how cool he is – as opposed to having good actors and a good storyline. The movie has no unique style of its own, it is just a sequel made to cash in on the success and popularity of the ones made before it.
A big let down!
