I was warned by my fellow MS and rightly so not to bother watching this movie. I rented this movie sometime back and well I must tell you that this was not a very great experience.
About the movie
Yaadein, directed by Subhash Ghai looks like the work of an Ad man. I read in the papers sometime back that his studio being a corporate account, it needs to promote the sponsors very aggressively.
Granted, he did that very well in his other movie ’’TAAL’’ but he freaked out a little too much in Yaadein. It was like watching a commercial all the way through.
The dialogues are horrible, the cast was good but Subhash Ghai has done a shabby job with them. Instead of utilising their potential like he usually does, he has totally ignored the roles of the characters and well played with the presentation of the movie.
The plot was very weak and there was no great connection with the characters. The romantic plot between Hrithik and Kareena was zilch. It had no charm and no romance, just ranting and raving.
Jackie Shroff spent the whole 3 hours mourning for his past wife. Give us a break.
There was a point when I felt the movie was an accumulation of ’’Pardes’’, ’’Dilwale Dulhania Le jayenge’’, ’’Mohabbatein’’ and ’’Dil to Pagal Hai’’.
The songs are okay.. I like the ’’Ai dil ’’ number. The choreography was ok but it was like watching ’’Fiza’’ and ’’Kaho na pyar hai’’ dance sequences.. nothing new....
I dont get it... Whats so corporate when you are making movies.. if he is following processes in a professional manner he should be making much better quality movies.
The story
I shall try and be very brief about the story..as there is nothing much anyway....
imagine a father with three daughters, trying to bring them up ...cut... comes from America to India...cut... hero follows the family as he is very attached to the father...cut... elder daughter gets married, the middle daughter gets married forcibly... repents... father makes things better...cut... Youngest daughter falls in love when she goes for a cycle race in Australia and where the hero also goes... lot of song and dance and commercial ads put in the dialogs....hero’s parents abroad fix his marriage.. now the father is not that well off as the hero ...cut... father knows about the love story but refuses to give his consent.. hero wants to run off with the gal but the gal refuses as she is an Indian and loves her father ...cut...the parents have a change of heart and plan to help their son ( who is the hero)... the parents are under the influence of a mean elder brother... who wants to set up his nephews marriage wand coincide that with a business merger...cut... hero’s parents revolt and the girl’s father also helps them and there is a big lecture as to how money is more important than values...cut... everyone is very moved by the lecture... ( we are moved out of the seats)...cut... everyone lives happily ever after...
When you see ...cut... in the above para read Jackie crying over his past wife... and unneccessary songs.
My thoughts
The story goes on for more than three hours and believe me.. its as painful watching it in the video. Stay away from this movie. You will be better off watching a Govinda starrer... it will give you something to laugh at !!!
