Mr. Dependable- The king of bikes

Finally after a long hibernation I am back with my review on my dream bike. Well, what else do I say for such a bike.... The most dependable among the two strokers and a tough competition for the four strokers as well. I have written a fairly detailed review on the Bajaj Pulsar DTSi 150 cc which many have found useful. But as I have said in the revu, there was always the bad neck pain accompanied with riding in heavy traffic conditions probably due to the bad weight balancing of the bike. So what did I do??

I sold it off and bought a second hand Yamaha RX 135; 4 speed which had run 35000 kms. Now I always wanted to own a RX atleast once in my life for a few years. That dream came true... Finally!!Now for the good things about the bike and the bad things(very few acutally :))Well for one, this is definitely a bike best suited for city riding conditions especially a traffic choked city like Bangalore.

I ride this bike nearly 35-40 kms a day and never feel for once that I have ridden so much. I still feel like being on the bike and going for another ride. The bike is a 2001 model 4 speed with a cat-con silencer. It is in the stock condition with no modifications to the body or the engine which is the best part. The only thing that is changed is the rear wheel which is a wider MRF Zapper. The best thing about the bike is that it stays planted on the road at any speeds.... Upto 100 kmph.

I have not tried past that point (never got the chance to neways). It has an awesome road grip and the best in class pick up which can give the 150 cc biggies of today a run for their money. Yes I am not boastin but it is true. The best thing that I liked about the bike is the power to weight ratio. It is a 135 cc bike and the unladen weight is 103 kgs, where as the pulsar that I owned is a 150 cc bike and weighs at around 153 kgs. So the folks out there can conclude which bike has the better power to weight ratio.

The CG of the bike is also well placed since it is very easy to handle and control the bike. Since the bike is very light compared to the other bikes, city riding is a breeze and you can cut thru traffic with ease. Thats about the engine and the power of the bike. The transmission of the bike is very smooth and there is no flaw here at all. Of course many may complain about false neutrals but that could be due to the rider’s experience as well. The four gears provided are quite satisfactory for city riding and can take the bike upto 100 kmph without much effort.

Coming to the flaws of the bike the electricals are very poor as in the head light is very dim and not enough for the dark pot holes laden roads of certain areas. The electrical controls are very simple and robust. One thing which I miss is the engine switch off button provided on the suzuki bikes like samurai. Braking is also not spot on and needs some good riding skills to bring the bike from a high speed to normalcy. Apart from these there are no complaints and I can ride this bike all day long without complaints.

Mind you I have only written the revu based on my usage within the city. I have not had the chance to go for a long ride with this beauty due to tight work schedules. Will update the revu once I have the chance to do the same. Now everyone would like to know how much mileage I would be getting!! Well not many RX fans like me would even be bothered about it but just for the statistics I get 38-42 kmpl in city riding.Looks of the bike is one thing which is subjective but I just love the simple and robust design.

Of course some people would like to disagree... But nevertheless, beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder!!! What more can I say eh?So anybody planning for a two wheeler for city riding, first look for a second hand well maintained RX and then look for other options...... This is from a sincere RX worshipper.Adios everyone!!! C ya all with a different revu!!!!!
