After being a 6 years proud owner of Yamaha RX-135, I felt greatly relieved for having the latest bike of Yamaha: Dubbed as “Lord of the Streets”, For FZ16 the first thing I loved is the ‘Naked Concept’ which really distinguishes it from all bikes available in India till today. The other things are that itis designed and engineered with the potential for active and even aggressive enjoyment of around-town Street riding. Its engine packs a mighty punch and the light weight diamond type frame known for its simplicity and excellent rigidity- enables it to cut its way through the curves like a street-fighter.
With the Triple Macho concept FZ 16 reflects visual expression of performance. The bike boasts of a 153cc air-cooled, 4-stroke, single-cylinder high torque engine for active & aggressive city riding. The engine is born out of the quest for the ultimate in intake efficiency, combustion efficiency and minimum horsepower loss and its breathtaking pickup. The single-axis balancer reduces vibration for more comfortable riding. A negative pressure type F26mm carburetor with TPS contributes to outstanding engine response. The placement of this model’s ‘MidShip Muffler’ is toward the center of the machine to achieve good concentration of mass, exhaust efficiency and handling. A Monocross suspension ensures agile running performance and handling. FZ 16 also has India’s first “140/60-17” size rear radial with a 60% aspect ratio contributes to better grip and handling stability. To achieve sufficient cooling effect, the cylinder head on the FZ16 engine is designed with especially large fins as well as a shroud (air intake cowl) to effectively direct airflow to the engine. The FZ-16’s flanks and tail are elegant, while its smart tail light is housed within the rear mudguard. The bike is city-friendly, broad and to some extent, a low-set handlebar, and uses grips with great feel.
The bike undoubtedly proves itself a accomplished motorbike, with 17-inch rims, a comfortably decent riding stance, well-padded as well as generous seat space and wide handlebar all coming together to make this Yamaha perfectly suited for stress-free city cruising and faster highway riding.
The Cons of this bike as from my side are : the non-availability of battery indicator and kick as option for starting, no storage space for keeping even a small amount of documents, etc, not-so-accurate petrol indicator, non availability of bike-service indicator. Tuned chiefly for city riding, as claimed by the Company, no doubt is really great; but what I had personally experienced is also a great Highway long hours and kilometers riding pleasure because of great ‘ERGONOMIC DESIGN’ and bike’s stability due to heaviness that is very proportionally distributed all through (just as in case of Enfield). What I had not still tried is its performance in hilly terrain!
