With the Ray, Yamaha made a successful debut in the Indian scooter market in 2012. Though the scooter did not create any benchmark in the 113cc scooter segment, it was capable enough to give all its established rivals a run for their money. The Ray had the exclusivity of being marketed as a female-oriented scooter, which definitely worked in its favor, as it appealed the fairer sex to a huge margin.
But Yamaha didn’t wait too long for bringing in something to impress the males as well. After playing the card of ‘ladies first’ by introducing the Ray as its first scooter, Yamaha launched the Ray Z in a succession to the Ray. The scooter was launched on the lines of the Ray, and was based completely on it. But the paint schemes and addition of a couple of accessories completely tilted its appeal towards the male design preferences.
In the beginning of 2016, Yamaha did discontinue the Ray, which was a surprising move by the Japanese giant, but then, it did surprise everyone at the Auto Expo 2016 by launching an even snazzier version of the Ray platform, the all new Yamaha Ray ZR. Targeted as a motoscooter for the youth crowd of India, the Ray ZR is not just a cosmetic facelift of the Ray platform, like the Ray Z. With a theme of ‘more than meets the eye’, here’s a comprehensive review of the Yamaha Ray ZR.
