This is a nice place for the people who want to really RELAX.
Definitely not suitable for the people who are in a hurry or for those who want to be very busy with sight-seeing, shopping etc.
There are hardly few places ( or view point) to see. This place is still not crowded by the tourists and that explains why the food is cheap and why the local people are good and helpful.
It is approximately 240 km from Bangalore and if you drive leasurely, you can make it in less than 5 hours.
The climb to Yercaud is good with lot of hairpin bends. The view is picturous with coffee plantations on both sides. When I did this stretch between 9.30 pm and 10.30 pm, there was not a soul on this stretch of the road except for a truck and a bike. However, it is recommended to pass this stretch in the day time.
The total town is hardly 4km in any direction from the centre. There is a lake in the centre of the town, you will enjoy the boating without going through the waiting time as there are less tourists and plenty of boats (definitely not like ooty where the waiting time was more than boating time).
There are lot of new hotels available and the price range is around Rs.400-600 per day for a double room (non A/C). Ratna Transit Home charges Rs.500 and provides with a bunker bed of double bed and a single bed above it.
Killiyur Falls is not a recommended place. It is more difficult to reach that place and it is not worth the trouble. In addition, the cars are not safe there as you have to stop the car and go by walk for some distance.
