Hey people! This is Part II of Reliabilty Personified (those of you havent read it can do so). Continuing about this bike, shes just completed about one and a quarter lakh ks on the odo and soon will be turning 22 years. Only now is starting to show signs of aging - a bit excessive smoke, a bit less pick up and a slightly nosier engine (piston slap). Will be getting her rebored, new piston rings and may polish up the exhaust and the intake ports and have the head shaved a fraction of a millimetre. If its possible to have a K & N high performance air filter fitted, the same will be done in place of the original oil bath type air filter. Add to that a high performance plug that produces a hotter twin spark. Am still in the process of finding a better alternative to the PACCO/ JIKOV unit commonly known as the Bullet type carb. Well be doing a overhaul of the transmission as well to change a couple of gear shifter springs, and then the clutch plates will be getting a lookover. All this to improve the efficiency of the bike as well as the power while ironing out as much of vibes as possible. At the same time on goes a new chain and sprocket set from ROLON - costs about 900 odd bucks, but then has a long life and is a name you can trust. The front shocks will also be getting an overhaul as they now tend to be a little hard as well as they ring with the beat of the bike. A new set of brake shoes will be going on too. And then finally to top off the whole thing, therell be a new paint job finished with a clear coat over it for better shine as well as durability. The new paint scheme will be that of the original Silver and black combo, stripes et al as out from the company. The whole job should set me back about 10 - 15 grand due to many imported imported parts going in - the K & N filter, the twin spark spark plug, and hope fully a good replacement to the original carb. Now this is a high risk thing with the carb, not advisable cause it can drastically cause a drop in and mileage. But if it works, then you guys can bet you see it out here on this site! Anyone sucessfully carried out the modification with good results can contact me. Future projects : A Yezdi Roadking/ CL II custom cruiser complete with extended frontforks that are stretched way out, new tank, saddle seats, fat rear end and a skinny front wheel. Overall that would mean a new or a possibly highly modified frame to suit the design. The engine too will be suitably reworked to provide the added go with the added show. Way forward : I being a proud Yezdi owner, fanatic, and enthusiast would like like minded people out there to join hands with me to create a Yezdi club on the lines not dissimilar to the Hells Angels, where there could be organised events, guided long distance rides with required back up, information on all the Yezdi/ Jawa products - that would include providing Workshop manuals and help on procuring spares of any kind from anywhere in India. Technical help could also be exchanged across as well as tips on tuning, maintainence and everything a Yezdi owner needs to know. I can be contacted on email at : sparkpluggin@yahoo.co.in or on Mobile no : +919820188390 Contact person : Sparky PS: Any one needing to get in touch with a very good Yezdi mechanic - one who knows the Yezdi like the back of his hand, contact me. This guy and his brother used work in the Yezdi factory in Mysore before they could close down. Now they have their garage in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. By the way its not too difficult getting spares - good quality and bad for the Yezdi range of bikes here at Coimbatore.
