You Can Win - one of the best self-help books

I have read this book by popular business consultant and speaker Shiv Khera several times over the years, and yet find something new in his explanations and principles for success. What is remarkable about this book is its lucid narrative style and plenty of anecdotes that Shiv uses to put his points across, which makes for a very interesting reading for all ages. The best part about this book(for me atleast) is that it doesn’t preach, nor does it take the usual religious or spiritual route to convince the reader on its virtues. If one needs such discourses, there is always a Bible, Gita, or Koran to fall back on. Right?

Shiv Khera has a nice way of dealing with even the most difficult topics, which he explains how to deal with using anecdotes and life-experiences, making the options more convincing. Moreover, instead of going about his explanations in a para by para style, he uses bullet-points liberally throughout the book, making it a handy reference material in times of difficulties(yeah right, when you’re in the "Yeh Saali Zindagi" mindset!). After I read the book a couple of times, I realized that the best way to derive more out of the book is by highlighting the catchy one-liners(plenty of them!) which can be referred to later, or note them down separately for quick reference. Reading it cover-to-cover like a novel is a no-no, unless you are just reading it to pass your time.

For those with time on their hands(and the committment to improve), every chapter is followed by Action Plans, which can be used in softcopy form for convenience in regular follow-up. As Shiv Khera believes(and I agree 100%) that the ultimate goal of education is not knowledge, but action.

I would highly recommend this masterpiece to anyone who wishes to self-introspect and seeks self-improvement, which is essential to keep learning throughout one’s life. This book will be particularly useful to those going through a tough phase in life(trust me, it helped ME quite often), or those who feel disoriented in life. The book has a calming effect by exhorting readers to always stay positive, urges you to think about the purpose in life and in all our actions.

As Shiv Khera says in the book, one’s attitude determines one’s altitude in life(yeah, I know it’s become a much-cliched one by now!). So, if we read and follow the principles explained in the book in the right earnest, it should go a long way in making ourselves become better persons and be happier.

Many thanks to Shiv Khera for sharing his knowledge and wisdom through this book which am sure has helped millions seek their path to success and happiness in life.
