Worth $9.00 a pop, maybe...

Well, living out here in the backwaters of Portland, OR, I don’t get to see movies that often on the big screen and when one comes to town, there is only one choice and the cost for the seat is $9.00. I wonder how much it would be in Mumbai?

Anyway the point I am trying to make is that I love to see my favorite Bollywood actors on the big screen and I will go out of my way to pay for it, it is cheaper than flying down to a city where there is a big population of Indians that have more choices of flicks.

Having said that, my overall opinion of Yuva was that it was acceptable. Abishek carried the movie mostly by himself as he was the most interesting character, although I did not follow why he turned out to so bad. He had a choice to leave and go to the village with his wife and start a new life, and it seemed that he would have liked to be a decent person if he had the opportunity, so why did the plot not go that way? It seemed his participation in the goonda culture was not warranted after he earned enough to leave the citiy and live a peaceful life. I could have even lived with the fact that he would get away with the attempted murder he committed if he would have reformed.

Vivek kind of stumbled into the whole thing. His story line was semi-convincing, probably the trauma of getting beaten by Abishek.

Ajay was just Ajay, like in the movie Lajja (sp) he was the hero fighting against those who are corrupt and in power. The corrupt power structure I mean.

Om Puri looked really unattractive in this film. Every acne scar seemed to show on his face in this one. He was evil and corrupt and his face did reflect that fact. I like Om Puri very much as an actor but he was just so so in this film.

The women in this film with the exception of Rani, were really extraneous. Rani was a force in Abishek’s life, therefore her character carried some significance, but Esha and Kareena, that was mostly filler to make the film a little more pleasant.

This film is worth a watch and if students are a force in Indian politics this might be good for a real change in the power structure.

The actors did an okay job, Abishek looked intimidating and I think he did the best job with his role although his story line was a bit disappointing in the end.

Vivek looked cute as always, and Ajay looked stoney faced as always, what can I say (kyaa kahoon?)

The best song was the theme song itself.

I believe this movie will probably bomb at the box office because it is another political movie and not a feel good silly movie like Main Hoon Na, but it is much superior to Main Hoon Na because at least ti had something meaningful it its plot and wasn’t just warm and fuzzy.
