Aayithe ezhuthu - Rewrite history

If there is one director who comes close to perfection, then it has to be Mani Rathnam. To put matters straight Aayitha Ezhuthu is brilliant. Talk about the screenplay, background score, cinematography or the sets, they are held in unison by one of the best directors of the present era.

The film sails through tantalisingly about three people who have totally varied interests, converge through the realms of fate and destiny and all the while with a sense of divergence. Inba, played by Madhavan, the trusted actor for Mani Rathnam has once again proved his acting prowess with a sheer display of aggression and ruthlessness. The kind of dynamic hooliganism he displays really gives the audience all that is necessary to hate the character of Inba. Meera Jasmine, who looks stunning in the conventional saree tries all tricks in the trade to keep Inba out of the shady activities and reform him for good.   Nothing deters Inba to stay out of the bad.

Michael Vasanth, potrayed by Surya, infuses a lot of enthusiasm in his college character. Sacrificing a scholarship for higher studies in the United States, he tries to symbolise the virtues of youth in politics. Surya, who offlate is enjoying a lot of success in tamil cinema is not going to leave anybody disappointed.

Arjun, played by Siddarth is the representative of the college going chunk. He is the symbol of today’s engineer - study in an engineering college and go to the United States for a lucrative career. The way his interests are affected after meeting Michael is the highlight of the movie. Trisha, who plays lady love to Arjun hasn’t got much to prove, though she looks too pretty. Esha Deol too does not leave a mark in the minds of the viewers.

Bharathiraja, as the politician is a tactical move by Mani Rathnam and is just mind blowing. His sarcastic jibes and taunts with Surya is just brilliant. The way Madhavan is forced to kill his brother and his best friend for the sake of power, position and money could not have been handled better by anybody other than Mani. The picturisation of the climax scene in the middle of a jam packed road is shot very well. A.R Rahman’s well crafted music jells with the movie without any tinge of boredom. Cinematography by Ravi K Chandran is simply outstanding and Mani Rathnam surely does not disappoint his fans as that has always been his strength. Though there are great moments in the movie, Mani sir could have done a better job in giving a convincing ending.

Anyway for all of you out there, if you are a Mani Rathnam fan, you simply cannot miss this well crafted movie. Overall this is a movie to be enjoyed in your nearby theatre.
