Zaheer Khan, this is the name, which would undoubetly shine in the cricketing world, in this decade. Zaheer, s emergence is regarded as India, s find of the 90s. zaheer made his debut in the icc knock out tournament in Kenya last year against Kenya and in his very first match zaheer showed his class by taking 3 wickets and the most refreshing part of his effort that day was his two Yorkers that ripped through the defences of the Kenyan batsmen, this is the sight which is not too common in India and for an Indian doing it, was very remarkable. And from then on he has never looked back and his arrival on the international scene was confirmed by Steve Waugh with his few words of praise, the thing that even the great ones find difficult to get out of Steve.
After having a good series in sharjah and then against Zimbabwe in India, the series against the Aussies was also a good one for Zaheer. Though Zaheer got only 3 wickets in the two tests he played, this series saw the emergence of Zaheer as a cricketer with a lot of fighting spirit and never say die attitude. The way he stood against McGrath and co. in the final test at Chennai was unbelievable. Then again in the one day series he showed that he had the ability to come back after being clobbered.
Once again Zaheer showed his fighting attitude in the Ranji Trophy final against the Railways when he bowled the Railways out of the match with a 5 wicket haul in the second essay. The thing that made this feat more memorable was that Zaheer had a very ordinary first inning and his performance in the second once again showed his ability to come back from behind.
All in all Zaheer, is a bowler with respectable speed and accuracy and most importantly, he has got the attitude that makes people successful and we can only wish him all the best and hope that he shines for India in the matches to come and most importantly bowls India to an overseas victory against Australia or South Africa.
