Love,Luck and the Silly game

I happened to buy this book after it was highly recommended by a cricket crazy friend of mine. I should have known better. I didn’t particularly like this book. Maybe for one reason I am not a cricket fan nor do I recognize the players. I understand that Anuja Chauhan has used the present cricket players’ persona to create the Indian cricket team in the book.

Well, any non cricket-fan can also presume that the hero of the book, the captain is closer to the great MS Dhoni’s physical appearance.

About Anuja’s writing style, I don’t find it extraordinary or impressive. I did laugh at a few well-written humorous lines. The language is simple, the writing even simpler.

The plot is quite fairy-tale-like when ordinary girl meets a superstar(captain of the Indian team in this case) Lot of hum-drum later, they get together and live happily ever after.

But yes I did like a few things about this book. The relationship with Zoya with her army brother who calls her – gaalu. The characters of Monita, Rinku chachi and Anita Chachi, the servant women’s famous – balls curry etc. These are the bits of the book that make it worth a one-time read.

All in all, I would sum it all up and say the book is – quick read, easily forgettable. Must you might like it if you are a cricket fan.
