infact.. the same happened for me initially... and I was really worried if there was a fault with my handset but fortunately I found a solution for this... what you have to do for this... after connecting the mobile to the laptop... go to settings in your mobile and then you will have an option for read more...
your memory card may not provide any problem. but it is happening with my memory card. I got my mobile hanged several times when I initially access the memory card. It is not advisable to use a 2GB card at that moment. ( May be its the fault of my handset.. I dont know exactly.)
