If they are taking 30% charges, why should one invest here? Why shouldn't a person just take life cover from the insurance company, and invest the remaining money in Mutual Funds or anywhere else, where the charges are 1 or 2%?

Excellent article. Brings out all the points very clearly. One should never invest with insurance companies, who fleece a lot of money out of gullible people who do not understand finance. I fully agree with this point. If you combine 'insurance+insurance', the only winner is the insurance agent, who will always try to hardsell such products to you.
