The inaugral ceremony of our 3rd Annual Athletic Meet inugrated by our esteemed chancellor Mr. Ashok Mittal, accomplished with a great pomp and show right from the unfurling of the Flag, releasing of the Balloons to flying of the birds. He congratulated the sportsmen for their past achievements and boosted up the morals of all the participants for being ready to put up a tough & healthy competition this time as well. The Torch-Relay started from the Chancellor's Office for the University Sports Stadium and was carried by our state level boxer Manpreet Singh who has brought laurels to the university by winning a bronze at the AIU's 57th All India Inter University Boxing Championship.

Followed by the torch relay of this bright sunny day, the event started with the March Past by the 27 contingents of the University representing different Schools, Departments and Wings of the University. All the participants took an oath under the leadership of Amritpal Kaur, who has well exhibited her athletic worth at All India Inter University Athletic championship. All sportsmen and women displayed true sportsmanship spirit for the honour of the university and glory of athletics. More than 1000 students and 300 members of the staff from different schools of the University participated in the events such as 100m, 400m & 1500m track race, Shot Put, Discus Throw, Long Jump, Javelin Throw etc. Much charm and attraction remained towards Tug of war between different groups of Staff Members, 400Mts walk above 50 Years and 400 Mts Run and walk below 50 years for men women from the staff. All onlookers were overwhelmed by the spirit and enthusiasm of the students.

The event came to an end with the smiles on the faces of athletes and spectators as well. This promotional venture and such kind of initiatives by our University is an excellent opportunity to determine the sporting skills the student harbor and it is really promising to see that the University is enthusiastic about promoting the sports culture in a big way. The support of the management is immense, and this is going to work to the advantage of building future sportspersons. The management is contended to take such steps in order to promote fitness and help students to take up sports as their full time career after completing their studies and see LPU also producing engineers cum sportsmen like JAWAGAL SRINATH, VENKATESH PRASAD AND RAHUL DRAVID who became star sportsmen in longer run.
