A recent exhortation by my doctor to exercise or die reminded me of my favorite walking spot in all of Chandigarh. The Sukhna Lake.
The Lake sits in the foothills of Shivalik, and is one of the most scenic spots in Chandigarh. The promenade that circles more than half of the Lake's perimeter is a spot for serious and serial walkers and joggers.
Many waft in to enjoy an evening out stroll up and down for the first 200 meters, and enjoy the mela at the food court and a few jhoolas and gift shops at the entrance of the Lake.
Those bent on exercise usually bypass this area and march ahead till the very end of the lake, 2 kms in distance. It is dotted with lights and speakers that play some soothing instrumental music. If you dont like that, you can carry your own walkman/ipod/mp3 player and listen to it.
For me, Sukhna remains the numero uno spot to take exercise where I can walk with my ears plugged with my kind of music and eyes feasting on the bonanza of nature. That is my precious time dedicated to myself and I can indulge in as much introspection as I like. The songs sound better there, and sometimes I discover hidden treasures in my own playlist.
Like this Santana - Why Don't You And I lyrics number
Since the moment I spotted you
Like walking 'round with little wings on my shoes
My stomach's filled with the butterflies
And it's alright
Bouncing round from cloud to cloud
I got the feelin' like I'm never gonna come down
If I said I didn't like it then you know I'd lied
Every time I try to talk to you
I get tongue-tied
Turns out, everything I say to you
Comes out wrong and never comes out right
Read if you must and leave a comment only if you have enjoyed it
