Today we had Mrs Shirin Gandhi come to colg and talk to us as our weekly guest lecturer. She was very impressive at first sight and seemed like a well informed and confident women, which we eventually found she was! but the lecture was about contemporary art and today's times where media has an influence on everything. mrs shirin gandhi was particularly chosen as firstly she owns an art gallery, secondly she happens to be an ex-student of our college(sophia) and thirdly her's is a family business and she has 20 years of experience in the business, and her father was the first person in mumbai to open an art gallery in the year 1964 when the concept of art galleries never existed. she is a highly educated lady with a majors in psychology and a double major in english literature. She then went on to england to know more about art.(as we were told today) the lecture was a highly interactive and interesting one and began with a power point presentation by Mrs. Gandhi which focussed on all the work she has showcased in her gallery. The ppt was a gr8 effort to show us all the beaatiful work of art. I really liked all the work of the artist and learned a lot from it. it was really helpful and worked as an eye opener for us inthe feild of art and art galleries. After the ppt she told us more about her gallery and their bussiness and how much art has progressed in the past five years with paintings being sold at 4crores also. I also learned that art is also in the form of video art which I was completely unaware of....on the whole it was a great session and very useful too!!
