Unjustified Medical Charges at a Bad Hospital in Delhi

Cancer is one of the most dreaded diseases in the modern world. Although with the rapid advancements in medical science, many breakthroughs have been made but a lot still needs to be done. All this has led to the establishment of a number of cancer hospitals in India and around the world. Likewise in Delhi, there are many cancer hospitals- but not all are up to the mark. However, unfortunately, there are a few bad hospitals in Delhi as well. Sadly, Nirmala Devi, a 73 year old resident of Delhi had to go through an awful medical experience in one of the bad hospitals in Delhi after being diagnosed with cancer.

After being diagnosed with breast cancer, Nirmala Devi’s family had a big task ahead of them in terms of her treatment. Although initially the doctor suggested that with surgery and chemotherapy afterwards, it was possible to cure her, yet it was imperative that she were taken to a good cancer hospital. On a friend’s suggestion, Nirmala Devi’s son booked an appointment at un unnamed hospital. At the outset the doctor including the hospital staff ensured her that the best treatment would be made available to the patient and once the surgery is done Nirmala Devi would be completely fine with chemotherapy sessions. Subsequently, she was a given a date for her surgery.

A day before getting her admitted in the hospital, Nirmala Devi’s son went to the hospital to inquire about the medical and other charges he would have to bear for his mother’s surgery and further treatment. He was shocked to find that the hospital was quoting exorbitant rates for the entire medical procedure, much more than what sounded appropriate. He immediately had a word with the hospital management who gave him baseless justifications for the same. The discussion soon turned into a heated exchange and the hospital representatives got verbally aggressive and asked him to look for another hospital if he could not meet the expenses. Nirmala’s son immediately rushed out of the hospital.

He was relieved that atleast he got to know about the business oriented mindset of the hospital well before going ahead with the process. In the coming days, he received many phone calls from the hospital offering some discounts but since he had already got to know that it was one of the bad hospitals in Delhi, he had started looking for other hospitals who had the interests of the patient at heart.
