Hi, I am a proud father of a cute little baby boy. The baby was born in Columbia Asia Hebbal, Bangalore. Like any other father, I was concerned about how to get the birth certificate for my son. I enquired about it with the hospital authorities. They said there will be a certificate given by the hospital based on which I can get the Birth certificate issued by BBMP. OK. Fine. I checked with the BBMP website. It says that the entire process of getting a birth certificate has been made online and one can get the same by visiting any of the BBMP offices / BBMP CSC - Citizen Service Centers across Bangalore. Fine again. I was happy but at the same time a little sceptical about the government machinery running smoothly. I took the sealed document from the hospital and went to a BBMP CSC in Sanjaynagar. To my surprise there wasn't even a single computer in there. Great. and BBMP claims to have made the process online. However, the gentleman there was courteous enough to give me directions about how to get the certificate. He directed me to the BBMP Help Center at Hebbal, next to Hebbal police station. I went there the next day. Thankfully they had a person working on desktop there. On showing the hospital issued certificate, he told me the hospital doesn't come in Hebbal juridiction and I have to go to Bytranapura BBMP office. I was like.WTF. and BBMP claims to have made the entire process online. Completely pissed off, I went to this new location. Its on Amrutahalli main road. coming from Hebbal, go under the flyover on airport road, take right at Amrutahalli signal. There is a small shop kind of building named Public Services Department. Thankfully the person at the counter gave me the form to fill in the details, asked to get a copy of the form and the certificate issued by the hospital. I asked for 5 original copies of the certificate, to which he asked 230 rupees. BBMP website says a completely different fee amount and in no calculations 5 copies amount to 230. Moreover he didnt give any receipt for the same. So I guess the money goes in part to the government and in part to his pocket. Anyways. he accepted the documents and gave the photocopies back to me with acknowledgement seal. Asked for 24 hours time. I went the next day and voila. the certificates were ready. Finally all the running around paid. Thanks to the BBMP website for misguiding info. I suggest the government should first make sure that new processes are implemented before making the news. Hope this review would be useful for new parents. Happy parenting! Ankur
