In Navratri for 10 days Garba & Dandiya is a part of routine life for Gujarati people. Almost evey club, hotel, resort ,colony, or mohalla is organising the event with full enthusiasm. You find people shaking with those beats with nicely dressed and smiley faces. I m also being a part of it.
Last night I was sitting in a celebration with my family, the programme started at 10 PM. the orchestra was all set to play. traditinally the first hour round is called garbi where people dance with the claps no dandiya only "taali", the second hour is dandiya round where sticks or dandiya is played, in a minimum group of two.
The orchestra singer started the programme with a gujarati bhajan and slowly turn up into the hindi songs without stopping the beat. the first song was gujarati with wordings ...
Thara bina shyaam mane sunu sunu laage, raas ramva ne velo aavaje.....
( without you shyaam feeling alone, please come early to play garba...)
slowly slowly the energy in the atmosphere getting high and frankly I couldn't notice when the singer shifted into the old hindi classical songs.
So many thoughts were going in and out of my mind, the beat was trying to cop-up with my heart beats unconsiously.
my mind started dancing with my thoughts, normally an average person after working all day comes home, eat food and become engrossed in the Idiot Box (TV), saying "oh god ! the day was so tought" and after watching Tv for two hour or so we feel sleepy and go to bed. The next day starts in the morning with rush and the day ends up in front of TV.
I was thinking after Navratri everybody of us will be again in the trap of the same routine what if we could have this celebraton all over the year or something social event running so that people will feel more energetic and come close to each other,
wish we could get more opportunity indaily life to be more social because I used to study in school that man is a social animal and now I feel man is a TV animal ...
wish we could change the way we live life ... socially ....
