Wanting to buy a glucometer, a websearch produced Glucosmile mfd by the Bengaluru-based Pulsatom (https://pulsatom.com/) which claims "We have a two tier-distribution network to reach to all parts of the country.....Our and regional resident representative offices are operating in most major cities like Delhi.... All major territories are covered by our sales teams reaching to almost every corner of the country. With a fast growing team, we can respond to our customers within a maximum time of 1 working day." I wrote to them asking for the contact details of their stockist (or a customer) in my area of Delhi and the possibility of a no-obligation demonstration. They replied suggesting I buy online because some package offers were only available online. I insisted on a Delhi stockist so they then sent me the contact details of their Delhi dealer (their "regional resident representative office"?). For Delhi, apart from this one dealer, they have no retailers/sales teams (notwithstanding their website claim). The dealer arranged a demonstration, and sold me a Glucosmile set at the website package offer price! The dealer assured me that each lancet could be used upto 10 times by the same user. Since this wasn't in the user manual, I wrote to Pulsatom who contradicted the dealer and said each lancet was single-use. The dealer to me stuck to multiple-use, saying this is what Pulsatom had told them. I wrote to Pulsatom again, they now agreed with the dealer and then, a few days later, contradicted themselves and repudiated once more the dealer's claim re multiple-use. They eventually said that "the right technical information" is what they give in their "official documents" (the user manual?) - in other words, what they say in their emails is not necessarily "right"?! Moreover, there was a discrepancy in the serial number of the glucometer; this Pulsatom could not explain and then it wrongly passed responsibility on to its dealer. Moreover again, it turned out its lancets were not stocked by its Delhi dealer so either one purchased them online from it, or one bought a different brand. It boasts of its distribution network but not only does it need better coordination at least with its Delhi dealer, but its vaunted distribution network is such that it needs to suggest to customers to purchase online because its products need not be available from its distributors! I wrote to Pulsatom that it contradicted itself / it contradicted its dealer / it flip-flopped in its claims, and these amounted to false promises / misleading claims to customers. Pulsatom told me I was making "insinuations" against it! I told Pulsatom that I would post on mouthshut and to other consumer organizations my experience with it, but Pulsatom remained adamant that I was wrong and it is right. Instead of an apology that would gracefully close this matter, Pulsatom seems determined to lose customer goodwill and reputation through this customer relationship strategy that it follows. I have, therefore, given it two stars and a negative recommendation for the above reasons. As for the product itself, it is too early to comment on its reliability. It is India-made, its test strips can be stored in the fridge, and the cheaper "Vital" brand of lancets is compatible with it. If you are considering a Glucosmile for yourself, I'd suggest you first locate a customer in your area whom you can consult to assess its effectiveness and to check on the after-sale service (for its consumables - the test strips and the lancets) in your area.
