India's new coach Duncan Fletcher has been heard to say that given the talent his new team appears to have, it is indeed possible that in the next five years India can dominate world cricket. Fletcher has been heard to say that he is impressed with the young talent that has dominated West Indies in the ongoing ODI series. According to Fletcher, Indian cricket is in a very healthy state at the present time.
According to Fletcher, due to the amount of talent present on the Indian team, he feels confident that in the next 5 to 10 years will see India as a leader in international cricket. Fletcher was also quoted as saying that while he knows five years is a long time in international cricket, that unless some other international teams begin to suddenly begin to dominate, he does not see India losing its current standing. This comes after India's young team recently led by three wickets against their host team and sealed a 3 to 0 lead in the current series
Fletcher has also had a great deal of praise for Rohit Sharma. Sharma has shown he can finish of an inning and not many batsman can do that stated Fletcher. Fletcher believes that Sharma can possibly play for most international Test sides, but is not getting his opportunity because of the level skill of the present side. Fletcher says he looks forward to working with Sharma, so he can learn which areas need improvement and building the confidentiality that is necessary between player and coach.
