lamington road in grant road (east) mumbai is a very popular destination for buying computer, softwares and other peripherals. But my experience shows that it has become a thug bazar. You will ask for something and they would try to push you for some other thing. For example I went to buy a laptop and when I asked for a configuration of a laptop between 19k to 21k. They showed me a toshiba laptop model and said it has a intel dual core processor. I agreed to buy it. After windows was loaded inside I requested to check the system information. (it gives all the information about what kind of processor is there, how much RAM is there, you OS is of which type etc.) I was shocked to see the processor as Intel celeron. I did not buy the laptop as I had not paid till that time. Remember in every shop there are around 5 to 10 people working. If there is a dispute they all try to dominate you. And if you are alone and not sure then you might end up buying which you wouldn't have bought if you had thorough knowledge. They dominated me as well but I also took a stand and since there were 4 more customers buying they allowed me to go. Because the environment got heated with arguments they thought that the other 4 might also not buy. Else they would have forced me to buy it.

See dual core processors are of many makes and types. There are dual core processors from intel and AMD. First ask them which company's dual core processor it is? Next ask them when you install windows inside it and when you check system information what will I see against the processor label. If its Intel Core 2 duo it will show you the exact. If its intel dual core it will show intel dual core. But also note that many processors are dual core but they are of different make. For e.g. intel has dual core processors under atom brand, celeron brand, B950 chipsets etc. But when windows is installed it shows as intel celeron only. And you guys might say that then why did you didn't buy? I didn't buy as the salesman was saying its a intel dual core processor. There is a difference between intel dual core processor and intel celeron processor.

And here too there is a catch. First you know clearly its not dual core. Its a very old processor. But under it intel has made variants which are of dual core. They call it 2nd generation etc. In short you have to know the model name. Or you go to device manager and then check the processor. If its dual core. And even if its celeron dual core it will repeat its name 2 times under the processor headings. That shows its dual core. But a "Intel Dual Core" or " Core 2 Duo" is much more powerful then "Intel Celeron" (even though it may be dual core). Remember its very confusing between first generation processor and 2nd and 3rd generation processors. Check the model name and specifications thoroughly. They will try to confuse you. And bet you, you will get confused. You have to be sure of your knowledge. Check price on online websites with model names along with user reviews before you go to lamington road. Its become really cheap market. Dominated by jain community who have become very cunning from being very humble and honest earlier. All the shops are connected with each other by intercom. They all know the price of the model on flipkart and will try to match that price. Only advantage of buying from lamington road is that you will see the product yourself. Get pirated software installed. They will give you some free stuff like mouse, cooling fan, laptop bag etc if you buy from them. But be very careful. See the price of the laptop or desktop depends a lot on the processor. The more advanced the processor the more the price and vice versa.

As far as checking the specifications of the product on the box is concerned before buying. Let me tell you box pack is shown to you only when you finalise that you will buy. Else they will show you a dummy piece or a somewhat near product. And tell you that this is how it will look. They will say that we will give you sealed box. But if you carefully look at the seal then on the orignal seal they have put cello tape. When you ask them they say that we have to open and check whether the product is correct or not. So in short they have answers for all your objections. Finally you as a customer do not have much choice.
