Once Upon a time, in a hot and humid jungle there lived an old elephant. She was a big elephant with a long but not always happy history and it was widely accepted that she had known better days. She once had large reservoirs of water to drink and waste. She had all his jungle to roam around in anywhere. She could move with a pace of tiger at that time. After years of subjugation and having kept under shackles, the elephant started its journey once again. With a burden of hundreds of million people this elephant was moving slowly. People were happy because the elephant was moving. They didn’t notice the decreasing speed and the ailing health of the elephant. But the load on the elephant went on increasing and the speed decreased further.
One day the elephant fell ill. She could not move further. All the passengers on the elephant were terrified. Few brave ones took the challenge and they climbed down the elephant. When they observed all the area they found many opportunities. They thought of doing something so that other passengers can also be brought down from the elephant. They utilized all the resources and framed a comprehensive strategy.
One of them named Ratan manufactured trucks to transport goods. The other one named Rahul manufactured scooters and provided to 10 million. People started climbing down the elephant and started to search place for living. K.P Singh of DLF created real estate. F.E Dins haw set up the cement company ACC, Houses were built. They didn’t have clothes to wear, Dhirubhai started Textile Company, and clothes were manufactured. No one had milk to drink, Varghese Kurien brought milk revolution.
Millions of passengers came down; the elephant started breathing once again. But it has many problems, people didn’t have any work to do, one south Indian named Narayan Murthy jumped from the elephant and created one lakhs jobs. People could not find the job, Mr. Sanjeev Bhikchandani created naukri.com. They didn’t have computers Shiv Nadar created HCL computers. They didn’t have email account, Sabeer Bhatia created Hotmail.
These were the few people who showed elephant its path. Some called them risk takers, some called problem solvers, and some called change agents. I call them Entrepreneurs.
They are the ones who started sharing the pain of the elephant. They are the one who thought of giving momentum to their elephant. They made others realize that only by climbing down and moving on your own, you and this elephant can make progress. Millions came down and followed their directions removing the burden of this giant elephant.
The elephant started pacing at 8%. It started gaining the strength of a tiger. Miracle of Miracles. All the other animals started appreciating and respecting her. Some were afraid: imagine the strength of a tiger in an elephant. What would happen to the rest of the jungle? Others said there was no reason to worry an elephant will always be an elephant at heart. Others said, it still has the burden of 370 million passengers, it will again slow down.
Which of the animals would be right? Who knows? It is for the future Entrepreneurs to answer.
