If you are learning English then I imagine that writing is a skill you would really like to improve. I have seen many university English papers written by non native speakers and most of them look pretty bad. Here are some tips to use when practicing your English writing. If you follow them, they will really help you improve.

1. Do not use a bunch of big words just because you know them. It looks like you are trying to show off and it is unnatural. Most native speakers only use big words when they are necessary. Mostly the vocabulary used in daily writing is relatively simple.

2. Do not write in your own language and then try to directly translate it into English. This is a major writing mistake many students make. Word for word translation looks ridiculous. You need to learn how to write properly in English first.

3. Pay close attention to how other native English speakers write. Read their emails. Notice what words and phrases they commonly use. Try to incorporate this style into your own writing. If you actively pay attention, you will notice that it is probably much different than how you would normally write.

4. Ask for feedback. You will never really know how good or bad your writing is unless you get it corrected by a native speaker. You could stay at the same level for years. Someone needs to tell you where your mistakes are and then you can finally work on correcting them.
