A long legal battle between one of the largest food chains in the world, McDonalds and celebrity hamburger chef, Jamie Oliver has finally come to close. Following Oliver’s display on the way McDonald’s hamburgers are prepared, the food biggie lastly declared that it will alter its recipe. The biggest surprise is that the mainstream, corporate media moguls have obviously stayed out of this matter.
In many occasions, Oliver clarified to the public, over so many years, via documentaries, television shows and interviews, how the fatty parts of beef are rinsed in ammonium hydroxide and then used as the filling in the burger.
Jamie Oliver, a chef and hamburger enthusiast, who is the sole fighter against the fast food industry, said in a prepared statement that basically, a product is taken that is sold in the most inexpensive way as if for dogs and after processing it this way, it is given to people.
It is not just the low quality of the meat, but also the ammonium hydroxide is detrimental for health. Oliver notably called this the “the pink slime process.”
Oliver is famously known to have said in his statements - why would any sensible human being put meat filled with ammonia in the mouths of their children?
But, Burger King and Taco Bell, in the United States, had already discarded the using ammonia in their products. Usually the food industry employs ammonium hydroxide as an anti-microbial force in meats that let McDonalds to use ‘inedible meat’.
The most sickening fact is that because ammonium hydroxide is considered a part of the - component in a production procedure - by the USDA, the customers may be unaware when the chemical is actually in their food.
