Nissan India could launch the Terrano SUV on the 9th of October and this information comes from a leading Nissan dealer from the western part of the country. October 9th will also be the day when Nissan India announces the price of this SUV. As always, the pricing is what will decide the fate of the Terrano. The price of the SUV will be a little more than what one would shell out for a Duster.

The higher price is because of the fact that the Terrano is a rebadged Duster with a different looking front and derriere. Since Renault would not want the Duster to be cannibalized by the rebadged SUV, Nissan will position the Terrano above the Duster. The Terrano also gets more upmarket interiors. Deal downers include the lack of steering mounted audio controls, a glaring miss on a car that could cost close to 15 lakh rupees on the road.

What you do get for that kind of money though are driver and passenger airbags, ABS, EBD, electrically controlled ORVMs, factory fitted 2-DIN CD player with Bluetooth, aux and USB support, automatic climate control, reverse parking sensors, leather seats, leather wrapped steering and gear lever, fog lamps and 16 inch alloy wheels. Also, the Terrano’s interiors feature wood finishing for door and dashboard trims, to make the SUV feel more premium than the Duster, which frankly has interiors that don’t befit a car priced over 10 big ones.

Coming to the engines and gearboxes, one petrol engine and one diesel engine, albeit in two states of tune, will be offered on the Terrano. A 5 speed manual gearbox will be offered on the 1.6 liter petrol engine and lower powered 1.5 liter K9K diesel engine. The 6 speed gearbox will be offered on the higher powered 1.5 liter K9K engine. The Terrano basically shares its engine and transmission options with the Renault Duster. The SUV will be built at the Renault-Nissan factory located in Chennai.
