The Maharashtra government said it would consider whether or not the cheerleaders could be allowed at the Indian Premier League (IPL) Twenty-20 matches in Mumbai. And this time the move was not initiated by the head of Maharashtra's moral brigade, Deputy Chief Minister R.R. Patil, who shut down dance bars three years ago.
The objection was raised in the State Legislative Council by Maharashtra BJP president Nitin Gadkari, who is also a member of the house. "If the State has banned dance bars then how is it allowing vulgar dances by scantily clad cheer leaders in IPL matches?" he asked.
He also sought to know whether the state government would prevent cheerleaders from dancing in IPL matches in Mumbai as it was degrading to women. To this, the Maharahstra's minister of state for home Siddharam Mhetre said the home department would examine the issue and take a decision accordingly.
On an earlier occasion, the legislators had also sought an inquiry into a wardrobe malfunction during the fashion week in Mumbai two years ago. However, nothing much came out of it.
As far as the cheerleaders are concerned, the Maharashtra Government has been silent whether it would immediately stop the dancing beauties from cheering the cricketers when they play at Wankhede stadium or newly-built D.Y. Patil stadium in Navi Mumbai where Mumbai Indians will clash with other teams.
According to the news these cheerleader brought from Greece and they are charging Rs. 20K per match for daning and cheering the teams. But I don't think any of the player cheered up through this way. Only the viewers sitting exactly before the cheerleaders got some nice view of them while watching matches.
