“Thechances of accident increases 3 times in monsoon. Here are some tips for safedriving”


Ø Please check thetyre before onset of Monsoon. If the tread is less than 1.6 mm., replace thetyres.


Ø Check the brakes toensure that they are in good condition.


Ø Check tyre pressureregularly. It is not advisable to over inflate the tyres (to minimize thechances of puncture) as it may wear out the tyres from the centre & alsoincreases the chances of toppling.


Ø Be careful aboutyour speed. Remember it is monsoon time.


Ø Drive in the trackof the vehicle ahead. It is safer to adjust the driving by observing theactions of the vehicle ahead of you.


Ø If possible drivein the middle of the road.


Ø Speed should bereduced by lifting the leg from the accelerator rather than applying brakes.


Ø If the brakes getwet while driving in deep water, jam the brakes several times so that thebrakes may dry quickly & regain the efficiency


Ø Focus &concentrate on driving


Ø Keep safe followingdistance which should be minimum 3 seconds. If driving in the night duringrains, it should be minimum 4 seconds. Use 4 seconds formula.


Ø If need to drive inthe water clogged road:


– Maintain steadyminimum speed.


– Drive in lowergear. Do not change gears.


– Raise theaccelerator steadily so that exhaust will keep the water away from entering theexhaust/ engine.


– Drive in such a wayso that you need not to stop. Even when stopped, keep raising the accelerator.


– After leaving thearea/ road, apply brakes few times to dry them so as to regain the efficiency.


Ø If raining, alwaysuse the A.C., which helps to have proper visibility.


Ø Use the demister toimprove the visibility.


Ø Avoid followinglarge vehicle too closely. The spray by these vehicles can create panic orconfusion.


Ø If the rains areheavy, use emergency lights to show the movement of your vehicle to others.


Ø Beware of roads ,bridges which are flooded. Never try to move on such roads. The water currentmay drift your vehicle away.


Ø Ensure that yourmobile phone is working & charged.


Ø Do not wastebattery for useless conversation.


Ø Keep following handy in case of emergency:


Drinking water, umbrella, Nylon rope & torch.At any time your Life is more precious than yourcar, so in case you are stuck be prepared to park and walk.
